St Mark’s is always in search of ways to look outwardly with service in mind.  We take part in many missions that involve community events, feeding ministries, disaster recovery, outreach to active duty military and more!

We always welcome extra hands as well as great ideas!

TAME is a year-round ministry of St Mark’s UMC that helps to feed the hungry locally and around the world. Our ministries includes:

  • Annual Rise Against Hunger meal packing events
  • Annual sponsorship of the Roanoke Rescue Mission’s Drumstick Dash
  • Financial support of Backpack Buddies, the local elementary school meal program
  • Assists in Society of St. Andrews gleaning efforts
  • Donates food or funds to relief agencies including Local Office on Aging, Botetourt Resource Center, Botetourt Food Pantry, and others

Food buckets are 5 gallon buckets that are filled with cleaning products in order to help families and recovery teams bring order and cleanliness back to parts of the world that have felt devastating impacts of natural disasters. In our most recent bucket packing ventures, St. Mark’s has been sending buckets to parts of the country that have been affected by hurricanes.

Partnering with several other churches in our community, St. Mark’s provides meals for children in local schools who are hungry through Backpack Buddies. These meals help students to continue to have meals throughout the weekend when they do not have access to food that is regularly provided by the public school system. Each week the sponsoring church provides a backpack full of food that students are able to prepare by themselves thus helping to break the cycle of hunger over the weekend.
